Flat Stanley, Iraq 2005

In 2005, during my first assignment to Iraq, I received a Flat Stanley request from a friend’s daughter.  You can learn more about Flat Stanley Here:  Flat Stanley  It is a wonderful elementary school literary project that is quite successful.  Anyway, my friend’s daughter was in second grade at the time (now on her way to Boston College, boy time flies), and I was unfamiliar with Flat Stanley and their website listed above was quote new.  So I read the directions when I received Flat Stanley in the mail (yes he comes by post often), I started to work.  I enjoyed the effort way too much and Flat Stanley became a way of describing Baghdad and the International Zone camp life.   Flat Stanley Iraq

Flat Stanley, Japan

I enjoyed the project so much that when it came time for the daughter of another close and mutual friend of the first Flat Stanley project, I received another email request.  Since I wasn’t traveling much at the time, I enlisted the help of a Japanese friend.  Here is the result of that effort.   Flat Stanley Japan
