Bizarre or Status Quo?

I came across the following article and link accidentally.  At the very least, it is provocative.  When secularism is in vogue, something will fill the place of the religious tenets that influenced the culture, i.e., Japan Shinto/Buddhism, India Hinduism/Buddhism, Europe Christianity, U.S. Christianity, etc.   Again, I am torn between laughing and crying.  If you have about 5 minutes, check out the clip of the celebration of the opening of the Gotthard Tunnel.

One Helluva Guy!

If you want to see the entire ceremony from which the clip referenced above was taken, check this link.  The dignitaries are pictured at 27:20″ and include some major European leaders Merkel, Hollande and  Renzi.

If someone does not think this is a bizarre ceremony for a new tunnel, or even for some other public event in Europe or the West, or anywhere for that matter, I challenge you to state your case.

As in physics and nature, culture loves a vacuum.  Eliminate or stifle key components of a culture and you will likely get a very different replacement, something that could destroy the very thing it was meant to supplant (i.e. Civilization).
